About this role
Job Description We are seeking a motivated candidate to join our team in advancing precision measurement science and metrology research for emerging quantum technologies. The successful candidate will play a key role in the research, development, validation, and benchmarking of advanced measurement solutions to support the establishment of optical clocks for the realization and dissemination of the SI second , as well as their applications, at NMC, the National Metrology Institute (NMI) of Singapore. The successful applicant will join our Research & Innovation Department and contribute to strengthening Singapore's national timekeeping capabilities and resilience. The key responsibilities of the position include: Build and maintain a dark fiber-based time and frequency comparison system, establishing technical capabilities on par with leading NMIs. Implement and optimize laser frequency stabilization systems utilizing external cavities and RF techniques. Develop and execute measurement protocols for fiber-based signal communication and optical frequency distribution. Support the establishment of an optical atomic clock steered timescale in Singapore and plan related time transfer activities to strengthen Singapore's capabilities in precision timekeeping and timing resilience Assist in exploring R&D opportunities related to on chip laser systems and quantum domains as secondary projects Job Requirements Ph.D. in Physics, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, or a related Photonics field. Hands-on experience in precision optical measurements, including laser stabilization, frequency referencing, and high-resolution metrology techniques essential for optical clock development and length metrology. Strong theoretical and practical understanding of laser physics, optical systems, and interferometric techniques, with demonstrated ability to apply them in precision frequency measurement and time/frequency metrology contexts. Experience with data analysis tools (e.g. MATLAB, Python) is advantageous. Good analytical skills, and technical writing ability. Ability to work effectively in a multi-institution, interdisciplinary research team. The above eligibility criteria are not exhaustive. A*STAR may include additional selection criteria based on its prevailing recruitment policies. These policies may be amended from time to time without notice.
