About this role

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help. You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion. Today, Amazon Web Services provides a highly reliable, scalable, low-cost infrastructure platform in the cloud that powers hundreds of thousands of businesses in 190 countries around the world. The AWS Cloud infrastructure is built around Regions and Availability Zones (AZs). AWS Regions provide multiple, physically separated and isolated AZs which are connected with low latency, high throughput, and highly redundant networking. How would you like to join the Global Fibre and Subsea (GSF) team that builds out that network? The Subsea Engineering team, sitting within the GSF team, consists of subject matter experts spanning all areas of subsea network engineering and owns the planning, contracting, build and operation of the AWS subsea backbone globally. We are looking for a Technical Business Developer with proven experience in the subsea telecoms space, strong sense of ownership and passion for defining and driving large cross-functional programs. The candidate should be self-driven, have the ability to learn quickly and influence decision-making across organizations. In this position, you will work closely with various Amazon business units to gather, refine and drive program goals. You will have the opportunity to implement new processes and procedures driving continuous improvement while interacting with a broad range of stakeholders across Amazon. At Amazon, we set a high bar, so expect to be challenged on the scope and scale of the problems we tackle. We are moving fast, using the latest technologies, and transforming the way we deliver global connectivity. Key job responsibilities In this position, the candidate will work closely with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders to develop and deliver submarine cable projects across the globe. The candidate should be able to represent and lead for Amazon in deployment and operational meetings, coordinate complex projects spanning several geographies and deliver the project to our high standards. You will have deep knowledge of how to construct subsea amplified fibre-based networks specifically including experience in route survey, route engineering, and marine operations. Specific knowledge of Submarine Line Termination Equipment specification and deployment is also desirable but not essential for this role. A day in the life The Subsea Engineering team is responsible for all aspects of submarine network deployment, operation, upgrades and management within AWS. We own the technology roadmap and standards for submarine cable, optical fiber, installation methods, procurement of the optical equipment, RSPC and associated operational models and security postures. We define the contractual framework for all required elements adding capacity that supports the AWS Backbone Network for our customers. The team works closely with the Regional Business Development teams to deliver submarine capacity to a global standard, enabling economic and scalable consistency for all our customers.
