Electrical Superintendent

Roles & Responsibilities The Electrical Superintendent is responsible for the technical management and operational reliability of all electrical, electronic, automation, communication, and navigation systems onboard assigned vessels. The role ensures vessels operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with statutory, classification, and company requirements while providing technical support to shipboard personnel and managing electrical maintenance, repairs, upgrades, and projects. Key Responsibilities Oversee the electrical and electronic performance of assigned vessels, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation. Provide technical support and guidance to Masters, Chief Engineers, and Electro-Technical Officers (ETOs) on electrical, automation, navigation, and communication systems. Plan, coordinate, and supervise electrical maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, equipment upgrades, retrofits, and modification projects. Monitor the condition and performance of electrical equipment, power generation and distribution systems, automation systems, cargo electrical equipment (where applicable), and navigational and communication equipment. Ensure vessels comply with applicable international regulations, flag state requirements, classification society rules, and company procedures relating to electrical systems. Prepare technical specifications, work scopes, and budgets for electrical repairs, conversions, dry-docking, and capital improvement projects. Supervise electrical work carried out by shipyards, contractors, and service providers, ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the required quality standards. Coordinate procurement of electrical spare parts, equipment, and specialist services while maintaining cost-effective inventory management. Investigate electrical failures and equipment breakdowns, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventive actions. Conduct vessel visits, inspections, and technical audits to assess equipment condition and verify compliance with company standards. Monitor project progress, budgets, expenditures, risks, and resource allocation, ensuring timely reporting to management and vessel owners. Review and approve technical reports, service reports, quotations, and contractor documentation. Work closely with Operations, Technical, Procurement, Crewing, and Project teams to ensure effective project execution and vessel support. Support newbuilding supervision, vessel conversions, retrofits, commissioning, and delivery projects when required. Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, Security, Environmental, and Quality (HSSEQ) management systems and promote continuous improvement throughout the fleet. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with classification societies, flag administrations, OEMs, shipyards, contractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders. Promote a strong safety culture by ensuring safe working practices and compliance with applicable industry standards and company policies. Requirements & Qualifications Degree in Electrical Engineering, Marine Electrical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, or a related discipline. Certificate of Competency (CoC) as Electro-Technical Officer (ETO), Electro-Technical Engineer, Marine Engineer, or equivalent maritime qualification is preferred. Minimum 5–10 years of relevant maritime experience, including seagoing service and/or shore-based technical management. Previous experience as an Electrical Superintendent, Technical Superintendent, ETO, or Senior Electrical Engineer within a shipowner, ship management company, or marine engineering organisation.
