About this role

Bloomberg News is one of the biggest financial and business news organizations in the world. We lead the way in breaking news and providing analysis on financial markets, from real-time coverage through to in-depth enterprise. We are known for our quality, accuracy and ability to deliver news investors can use. It's what keeps us inventing and re-inventing, all the time. We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Emerging Markets Reporter for our Asia Macro Markets Team. This is an opportunity to be at the forefront of financial market action in Asia, each and every day. The beat covers everything from global capital flows to the intricacies of the region's fixed-income and foreign-exchange markets. One day you might be exploring investment trends amid the evolving US-China relationship, the next you might be digging into the relative value of local-currency bonds or researching the growing investor sophistication in diverse, tech- and trade-focused economies. A dynamic and fast-paced role, it requires the ability to write with authority on the intersection of markets, the economy and geopolitics, presenting news and analysis that's indispensable for both regional and international audiences. You will work and collaborate with our team of expert reporters and editors both locally and around the world, with a primary focus on Southeast Asia. You will be expected to explain what's moving in Asia's emerging markets and why to a broad global audience, pouncing on price action and publishing quick stories to reflect developments. Such reporting will form the foundations for broader, more impactful and ambitious stepback stories that put individual country markets in regional context and regional markets in global context. You will interview the smartest, biggest and most respected names in the EM space for stories that demonstrate a keen understanding of the financial market interplay with politics and economics. We'll trust you to: Write with authority and insight about Asia's emerging markets including bonds, currency and short-term interest rates, capturing the elements of both “what’s happening” and “what it means” -- against the backdrop of local and global trends Cultivate a broad network of investors, traders and other market participants as sources to help break news and build deeper stories that explain market activity or analyze trends Identify and interpret broader themes in currencies, rates and other asset classes, drawing upon expertise from across the market and the Bloomberg newsroom to help generate impactful stories that set the agenda for investors and policymakers You'll need to have: At least 5 recent years of experience as a financial reporter Experience working in a real-time news environment Experience covering currency, bonds, equity, economics or politics as a reporter The ability to tap into a wide variety of contacts, ranging from traders and investors to the biggest money managers, government officials and policy makers A knack for generating story ideas and finding the narrative in numbers, plus the dexterity to turn complex subjects into compelling narratives A collaborative team spirit, the drive to innovate and a strong work ethic Fluency in both spoken and written English The ability to quickly produce copy that is accurate, engaging and on point. Bachelor’s degree or degree-equivalent qualifications Demonstrated continuous career growth within an organization Life at Bloomberg is many things, but it’s never dull. We’re a truly global business with a truly diverse workforce. We pride ourselves on being open, inclusive and collaborative, and provide a work environment that inspires our employees to be their best. We offer competitive compensation, comprehensive healthcare coverage, and programs to support you and your family through different life stages, from parental leave to generous retirement savings plans. If this sounds like you: Apply if you think we're a good match.
