About this role

Role Summary The Project Engineer is responsible for leading the planning, coordination and execution of network construction and deployment activities for large-scale data centre fit-out projects. Reporting to the Project Manager, this site-focused role combines construction delivery with hands-on network deployment expertise. The Project Engineer provides technical leadership and guidance to Site Engineers, Site Supervisors, subcontractors and installation teams, ensuring network infrastructure is installed in accordance with approved designs, industry best practices and project quality standards. The ideal candidate will come from a network installation contractor, structured cabling contractor, telecommunications contractor or systems integrator background with practical experience delivering network infrastructure projects. Key Responsibilities Lead construction delivery of structured cabling, fibre optic infrastructure, rack and cabinet installation, cable containment and network equipment deployment. Develop construction execution plans, installation methodologies, daily work plans and weekly look-ahead schedules aligned with the project master schedule. Manage construction execution across the 4M (Manpower, Materials, Methods and Machinery). Lead Site Engineers, Site Supervisors and subcontractors to deliver works safely, efficiently and to programme. Review construction drawings, rack elevations, fibre routing plans, cable schedules, port maps and technical documentation to ensure buildability. Manage RFIs, technical queries, design clarifications and field changes. Monitor construction productivity, quality, safety, schedule and cost performance. Coordinate inspections, testing, commissioning support and project handover activities. Prepare progress reports, risk registers, recovery plans and management updates. Coordinate interfaces with Network Engineering, MEP, Civil, Architectural, Security, BMS/DCIM and Operations teams. Technical Leadership Act as the primary technical authority for network installation activities during construction. Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting support to Site Engineers, Site Supervisors and installation teams. Interpret network drawings, rack elevations, cable routing plans and installation standards for field execution. Review installation methodologies and ensure deployment complies with OEM and project standards. Resolve field issues relating to structured cabling, fibre routing, rack layouts, network equipment installation and cable containment. Mentor junior site engineers and supervisors on network installation best practices. Coordinate design clarifications with the Network Engineering team when required. Skills & Experience Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Telecommunications, Network Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Construction Management or related discipline. Relevant certifications in structured cabling, fibre optics or networking are advantageous. 4–10 years' experience delivering network infrastructure construction and deployment projects. Strong preference for candidates from Structured Cabling Contractors, Network Infrastructure Contractors, Telecommunications Contractors, Data Centre Fit-out Contractors or Systems Integrators. Practical experience supervising network infrastructure installations including structured cabling, fibre optic systems, rack and cabinet deployment, network equipment installation, testing, commissioning support and subcontractor management. Experience delivering brownfield and greenfield data centre projects is highly desirable. Technical Knowledge Structured Cabling Systems (Copper & Fibre). Fibre Optic Installation and Testing (OTDR, Insertion Loss). Rack & Cabinet Installation. Cable Containment Systems. Leaf-Spine Data Centre Network Architecture. Network Equipment Installation (Switches, Routers, Firewalls, OOB). MMR, MDF, IDF and Meet-Me Room deployments. Construction sequencing, testing, commissioning and operational handover.
