Structural Steel Erector – Job Duties & Responsibilities Read and interpret structural drawings, blueprints, and erection plans Unload, sort, and position steel components (beams, columns, braces, trusses) Rig, hoist, and align structural steel members using cranes, slings, chains, and cables Bolt, weld, and secure steel structures according to engineering specifications Ensure steel members are level, plumb, and properly aligned Install metal decking, stairs, handrails, and miscellaneous steel Perform field welding and cutting using oxy-fuel, plasma, or arc welding equipment Inspect steel connections for accuracy, strength, and safety compliance Follow site safety rules , OSHA regulations, and company safety procedures Use power tools and hand tools safely and efficiently Work at heights using harnesses, lifts, and scaffolding Coordinate with crane operators, supervisors, and other trades Identify and report structural defects or misalignments Assist in temporary bracing and stabilization of structures Maintain a clean and safe worksite Perform basic equipment maintenance and report malfunctions
