You will be part of a team that oversees and stewards Singapore’s competition and consumer protection policies, which aim to foster a fair and competitive economic environment for businesses and consumers in Singapore. Promoting market competition and safeguarding consumer interests are key to upholding business and consumer confidence in the economy. With the emergence of new technologies and business models, changing consumer preferences and global economic shifts, our policies must remain relevant and effective so that Singapore continues to be a stable and attractive destination for business and investment, and consumers enjoy many choices and shop with peace of mind. By strengthening the twin pillars of competition and consumer protection, you will contribute to MTI’s objective to foster a vibrant, innovative and competitive economy. As part of a policy team in MTI’s Enterprise Development Division, you will review and shape Singapore’s competition and consumer protection regimes to ensure that they benefit both businesses and consumers and support MTI’s economic objectives. You will be exposed to a wide range of issues and have opportunities to develop many competencies, such as: (a) Reviewing competition and consumer protection policies, including proposed measures and legislative changes to address emerging trends and concerns. (b) Working closely with the Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore (CCCS) and Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE) to review specific cases, including assessments of strategic mergers and business collaborations. (c) Performing deskhead functions for CCCS and CASE, including strategic reviews and driving organisational change. (d) Working with industry stakeholders to co-develop guidelines to raise business standards, in diverse sectors such as e-commerce, entertainment and retail. (e) Working with other MTI divisions, economic and regulatory agencies to address cross-cutting issues, such as cost-of-living and how competition can support economic/ industry development objectives. (f) Advancing Singapore’s interests on competition and consumer protection matters at international and regional platforms. You should have: • Strong analytical, writing and communication skills • Experience in policy formulation and implementation • Good interpersonal skills and ability to manage different stakeholders • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team • 2-3 years of prior work experience is preferred
