About this role

The Institute for Digital Molecular Analytics and Science (IDMxS), officially launched on 1 December 2022, is a Research Centre of Excellence (RCE) supported by a total investment of around S$160 million over 10 years. IDMxS’ overarching approach is to go beyond the neat simplicity of intermolecular interactions in dilute media and embrace the inherent complexity of biological interactions and dense heterogeneity of their environments. Key Responsibilities: Design, prototype, and optimize passive microfluidic cartridges integrating plasma-separation membranes for efficient plasma delivery to electrochemical sensors. Characterize plasma separation performance including separation time, yield, cell carryover, and robustness across physiological and environmental conditions. Develop reproducible cartridge fabrication workflows, design documentation, and standardized testing protocols to support scalable prototyping and design transfer. Plan experiments, collect and analyze data using appropriate analytical tools and software. Work with interdisciplinary teams including clinicians to integrate microfluidics chips with complementary technologies, such as electrochemical biosensing platforms. Prepare research publications, technical reports, and conference presentations. Keep abreast of emerging developments in microfluidics, diagnostics, and biomedical engineering. Requirements: PhD Qualification in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field. Strong expertise in microfluidic systems, including experimental design, flow characterization, plasma separation, and diagnostic device validation. Hands-on experience in device development, covering microfluidic design, prototyping, membrane integration, passive flow control, and performance optimization. Proficiency in data analysis and problem-solving, with the ability to evaluate device performance using analytical and visualization tools. Ability to work in interdisciplinary teams and communicate effectively, with preferred experience in microfluidic fabrication techniques, fluid dynamics, manufacturability, and scale-up considerations.
