About this role

At EI2 Lab www.wrzhanglab.com, we focus on advancing electrochemistry, materials, and engineering as an integrated platform to build technologies for a sustainable and resilient future. We focus on the ion conductor and its interface with other materials. We aim to understand the ion/electron transportation in the conductor, and the chemo-electro-mechanics behavior at these materials interface. By understanding and ultimately controlling these interfaces, we will enable the development of advanced energy systems and electronic devices, including high energy Li/Na batteries, all-solid-state batteries, sensors, switch, electrochemical transistors, with scalable architectures for real-world applications. The School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering is one of the founding Schools of the Nanyang Technological University. Built on a culture of excellence, the School is renowned for its high academic standards and research. With over 3,000 undergraduates students and 1,000 graduate students it is one of the largest EEE schools in the world and ranks 10th in the field of Electrical & Electronic Engineering in the 2024 QS World University Rankings by Subjects. Today, the School has become one of the world’s largest engineering schools that nurtures competent engineers and researchers. Each year, the School graduates over a thousand students who are ready to take on great ambitions and challenges. For more details, please view: https://www.ntu.edu.sg/eee We are looking for a highly motivated Research Fellow to drive independent research in next-generation electrochemical energy systems; support interdisciplinary collaborations across materials science, electrochemistry, and mechanics; mentor graduate and undergraduate students in the lab. The role will contribute to cutting-edge research in electrochemical energy storage and conversion, with a focus on solid-state batteries, interfacial chemistry, electro-chemo-mechanics, and novel energy materials. Key Responsibilities: Conduct advanced research on solid-state batteries; high energy batteries; materials synthesis; materials for electronic devices like sensors, semiconductors, switch, transistors. Design and perform electrochemical, mechanical, and advanced materials characterizations. Collaborate with internal and external academic/industrial partners on joint projects. Prepare manuscripts for high-impact journal publications and present at international conferences. Contribute to grant proposal writing and new project development. Mentor and supervise PhD, Master’s, and undergraduate students in the laboratory. Job Requirements: PhD degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field At least 3 years of relevant experience in similar role / technical hands-on experience in materials synthesis, electrochemical testing, and advanced characterization techniques. Familiarity with electrochemistry and battery research. Proven track record of high-quality research publications in peer-reviewed journals. Good written and oral communication skills Proficiency in electrochemical testing (EIS, CV, galvanostatic cycling), advanced material characterization (XPS, SEM/TEM, XRD), data analysis, and numerical/analytical skills. Competent in project management. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team. Entry-level candidates are welcome to apply Ability to build rapport and influence stakeholders at all levels Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
