Job Description The successful candidate will work with Dr. Tian Chong on synthesis of mechanically interlocked molecules under a project on Bridging Chemistry and Biology: Synthesis, Structure, and Properties of Mechanically Interlocked Peptides (MIPS). The main responsibilities of the position include: • Research tasks (80%): To conduct independent research. The work will include literature review, reaction design and optimization, compound synthesis and purification, structural characterization, data analysis, and preparation of manuscripts and research reports. • Student supervision and mentoring (10%): To assist in the supervision and training of undergraduate, Master’s, and PhD students, including guidance on experimental design, laboratory techniques, data analysis, and research progress. • Research communication and reporting (5%): To attend weekly one-to-one research discussions with the PI, prepare monthly written progress reports, and deliver quarterly oral work reports. • Laboratory safety and management (5%): To respect and follow the department’s safety policies and laboratory regulations; contribute to routine lab management. Qualifications / Discipline: • A PhD in Science is required, preferably in Supramolecular Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or a closely related discipline. • Candidates with a strong background in organic synthesis, supramolecular chemistry, mechanically interlocked molecules, macrocycle synthesis, or peptide/medicinal chemistry are preferred. • A good publication record and evidence of independent research ability are highly desirable. Skills: • Strong knowledge of organic synthesis and supramolecular chemistry. • Experience in multi-step synthesis, macrocycle synthesis, rotaxane/catenane synthesis, or related synthetic methodologies. • Ability to design experiments independently, troubleshoot reactions, analyze data, and prepare manuscripts or research reports. • Good written and oral communication skills in English, including scientific writing and presentation. • Ability to supervise and guide undergraduate, Master’s, and PhD students in experimental work and research progress. • Ability to work responsibly and supportively in a team-based laboratory environment. Experience: • Relevant experience in organic synthesis, purification, and compound characterization is required. Experience with spectroscopic and analytical techniques such as NMR, MS, HPLC, LC-MS, and other standard characterization methods is expected. • Prior experience in supramolecular chemistry, mechanically interlocked molecules, peptide chemistry, or medicinal chemistry would be an advantage.
