ROLE : To provide strong leadership to the Mandarin Department to ensure that all students make progress and that ambitious targets for student performance are met. To develop an innovative and progressive curriculum in Mandarin lessons which is supported by a vibrant proqramme of enrichment. RESPONSIBILITIES To lead the successful delivery of Mandarin across the School. To inspire and enthuse members of the team, with a clear vision for the future direction of the Mandarin Department. To develop an innovative and progressive curriculum in Mandarin. To undertake regular audits and quality assurance checks within Mandarin to ensure that the highest standards are being achieved in all aspects of the department's work. To monitor standards of teaching and learning within the department and implement strategies for sustained improvement. To oversee and support the professional development of all staff within the department through training and sharing of good practice opportunities. To lead the development of differentiated schemes of work in line with the School's curricular programmes. To keep up-to-date about subject development and to take part in relevant CPD for this purpose, disseminating to other staff where appropriate. To lead the department's strategic planning and self-evaluation processes. To provide regular reports on student performance based on internal assessment data as well as externally verified examination results eg. YCT and to plan effective interventions as appropriate. To act as a role model to others, demonstrating high standards of professionalism in all aspects of leadership. To co-ordinate the resources of the Department, giving support and guidance to relevant staff. To complete all administrative tasks in a timely and accurate manner. To ensure that appropriate arrangements are made for examination entries and statutory requirements eg. YCT, IGCSEs in collaboration with the Exams Officer. To contribute to wider whole school policy making as appropriate. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT To design and share with the Mandarin Department an appropriate and progressive curriculum that reflects the ethos of the School and meets the needs of all students. To make sure that Mandarin teachers meet the needs of all students, including those with additional needs, for example those with a low skill base, hearing or visual impairment, and the very able. To maintain an up to date knowledge of new initiatives and incorporate elements into the Mandarin strategy as appropriate. To review, evaluate and improve the design and delivery of the Mandarin curriculum in line with the School's review cycle. To incorporate assessment into all aspects of curriculum planning and ensure the Mandarin Department adheres to these practices. SCHOOL EVENTS To lead and organise opportunities for whole school performances to celebrate and recognise Mandarin and Chinese culture. To attend curriculum evenings, information evenings, assemblies and performances, etc. in line with the successful provision of Mandarin. To support the extra-curricular life of the School, including contributing to off-timetable workshops, CCAs, weekend workshops, events…
