About this role

Job Description As the Retail Assistant Manager, you will work closely with the Store Manager to oversee daily operations, manage inventory, and lead a team of retail assistants. You will play a crucial role in maintaining high standard visual merchandising, ensuring excellent customer service, and driving store sales targets. Key Responsibilities Store Operations: Assist in managing day-to-day supermarket operations, including opening/closing procedures, cash management, and maintaining store cleanliness and safety standards. Team Leadership: Supervise, train, and motivate retail assistants and cashiers. Assist in rostering and managing staff performance. Inventory & Stock Management: Monitor stock levels, coordinate with suppliers, manage receiving, and ensure proper stock rotation (FIFO) to minimize wastage (especially for fresh produce). Customer Excellence: Handle customer inquiries, feedback, and complaints professionally to ensure a pleasant shopping experience. Merchandising: Ensure products are well-displayed, correctly priced, and that promotional setups are executed effectively. Compliance: Ensure the store complies with Singapore’s food safety regulations, NEA guidelines, and workplace safety standards. Requirements Experience: Minimum 1–2 years of supervisory experience in retail, preferably in a supermarket, grocery, or FMCG environment. Skills: Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills. Proficient in basic POS systems and MS Office (Excel/Word). Attributes: Hands-on attitude, stamina to work in a fast-paced retail environment, and a problem-solving mindset. Flexibility: Ability to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays (5.5-day or 6-day work week schedules). Language: Proficient in English and Bengali due to most customers being from Bangladesh. Ability to speak other language (e.g. Mandarin, Malay, or Tamil) is a plus to communicate with diverse customers and team members.
