Job Title: Drafter cum Document Controller Job Summary The Drafter cum Document Controller is responsible for preparing and maintaining accurate engineering drawings, technical documents, and project records. The role supports the engineering, production, quality, and project teams by ensuring that drawings and documents are properly created, reviewed, approved, distributed, revised, and archived. Key Responsibilities Drafting and Engineering Support Prepare 2D and 3D mechanical drawings based on sketches, concepts, samples, and engineering instructions. Create detailed part drawings, assembly drawings, fabrication drawings, and bill of materials. Update existing drawings according to engineering changes and customer requirements. Ensure all drawings include correct dimensions, tolerances, materials, surface finishes, and manufacturing notes. Check drawings for accuracy, completeness, manufacturability, and compliance with company standards. Convert customer drawings or PDF files into editable CAD formats when required. Support engineers in preparing design concepts, layouts, and technical documentation. Coordinate with production, machining, assembly, and quality teams to clarify drawing requirements. Assist with measurement and verification of actual components when preparing or revising drawings. Maintain drawing templates, title blocks, standard symbols, and drafting guidelines. Document Control Manage engineering drawings, specifications, procedures, work instructions, quality documents, and project records. Assign and maintain document numbers, drawing numbers, revision levels, and approval status. Ensure that only the latest approved revision is available for production and inspection use. Distribute approved documents and drawings to the relevant departments, suppliers, and customers. Retrieve and remove obsolete or superseded documents from points of use. Maintain document registers, drawing lists, revision histories, and document transmittal records. Control the submission, review, approval, release, and archiving of documents. Follow up with document owners and approvers on outstanding reviews or approvals. Maintain both electronic and hard-copy filing systems in an organised and traceable manner. Ensure confidential documents and customer information are handled securely. Support internal, customer, and certification audits by providing requested document records. Assist in maintaining documents required for ISO 9001 or other quality management systems. Prepare document submission packages for customers and suppliers when required. Requirements Diploma, NITEC, Higher NITEC, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Drafting, or a related field; fresh graduates welcome. Relevant experience in mechanical drafting, engineering documentation, or document control is preferred. Proficient in Autodesk Inventor or SolidWorks. Able to read and understand mechanical drawings, dimensions, tolerances, and engineering specifications. Basic understanding of machining, sheet metal, fabrication, assembly, and manufacturing processes. Familiarity with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing is an advantage. Familiarity with ISO document control requirements is an advantage. Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook. Good attention to detail and strong organisational skills. Able to manage multiple documents, revisions, and deadlines. Able to communicate effectively with engineers, production personnel, suppliers, and customers. Able to work independently and as part of a team. Preferred Skills Experience in precision engineering, automation equipment, semiconductor equipment, tooling, jigs, or fixtures. Experience preparing bills of materials and maintaining engineering change records. Knowledge of engineering change request and engineering change order processes. Key Performance Indicators Accuracy and completeness of drawings. Timely preparation and revision of drawings. Proper control of document revisions and approvals. Availability of the latest approved documents at points of use. Accuracy of document registers and drawing lists. Timely closure of document-related audit findings.
