Role Overview The Jumps Coach is responsible for the planning, delivery, and development of Singapore Athletics’ jumps programme, spanning the full athlete pathway from talent identification to high performance. The role focuses on building technical consistency, physical robustness, and long-term athlete development across shot put, discus, hammer and/or javelin. The coach is expected to operate within a structured high-performance system, aligned with national performance objectives and international benchmarks. Skills & Competencies Technical & Coaching Skills Strong technical understanding of jumps biomechanics (long jump, triple jump, high jump and/or pole vault) Ability to teach and refine complex movement patterns with clarity and consistency Sound knowledge of long-term athlete development and progression Competence in training planning and periodisation for jumps athletes Ability to integrate technical coaching with speed, strength and power development Performance & Analytical Skills Ability to analyse technique through observation and basic video tools Use of performance data (e.g. approach runs, take-off metrics, competition results) to inform coaching decisions Strong problem-solving approach to performance plateaus and technical inconsistencies Understanding of performance demands at regional and international levels Athlete Management & Welfare Athlete-centred coaching approach with clear professional boundaries Ability to manage athletes across different ages, abilities and motivational profiles Awareness of injury prevention, load management and return-to-play principles Knowledge of safeguarding, ethical coaching and duty of care standards Communication & Collaboration Clear and effective communication with athletes, parents and stakeholders Ability to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary high-performance environment Alignment with national technical models and programme direction Ability to provide constructive feedback and set clear performance expectations Professional & Organisational Skills High level of professionalism, reliability and accountability Ability to plan, document and report coaching activities as required Commitment to continuous learning and professional development Willingness to work flexible hours and travel for competitions and training camps Personal Attributes Process-driven, patient and resilient High technical credibility with a no-shortcuts mindset Committed to long-term athlete development Positive role model aligned with Singapore Athletics’ values
