About this role

Job Purpose The primary responsibility of this role is to lead the research and technical development of a high-frequency ultrasound imaging platform, including hardware-software integration and advanced signal processing algorithms for structural and functional imaging, in order to deliver clinically relevant prototypes, high-quality publications, and translational outcomes for the project. Key Responsibilities Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI), Collaborator and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met. Lead the design, development, and experimental validation of high-frequency ultrasound imaging methods, with emphasis on high-frame-rate acquisition, coded excitation, tissue harmonic imaging, adaptive/specular beamforming, and functional imaging approaches such as Doppler and elastography. Drive the integration of hardware and software components into a functioning imaging platform suitable for laboratory and pre-clinical/clinical-environment testing. Plan and execute research studies, including phantom, benchtop, and application-oriented validation experiments, and analyze the resulting data rigorously. Develop, implement, and optimize signal and image processing algorithms using appropriate programming environments and computational tools. Contribute to the definition of system specifications, experimental protocols, validation metrics, and milestone tracking across the project work packages. Prepare technical reports, journal papers, conference papers, presentations, and documentation required for project reviews, dissemination, and future translation/commercialization. Supervise and mentor junior research staff and students, including guidance on experiments, coding, data analysis, and scientific writing. Support project management activities, including procurement inputs, coordination with collaborators, and contribution to risk assessment, quality documentation, and regulatory-readiness activities. Contribute to intellectual property development, invention disclosure preparation, and identification of translational and commercialize. Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers. Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment. Job Requirements Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Medical Imaging, Signal Processing, Applied Physics, Computer Engineering, or a closely related discipline. Strong background in at least one of the following: ultrasound imaging, medical signal processing, beamforming, image reconstruction, elastography, Doppler imaging, or computational imaging. Demonstrated experience in algorithm development and scientific programming, preferably in Python, MATLAB, C/C++, or related environments. Proven research track record through peer-reviewed journal publications and/or conference presentations in relevant areas. Experience in experimental research involving imaging systems, instrumentation, data acquisition, and quantitative validation is highly desirable. Familiarity with AI/deep learning methods for medical imaging is advantageous. Experience in hardware–software integration, GPU/FPGA acceleration, or translation of research into prototype systems would be an added advantage. Ability to work independently while contributing effectively in a multidisciplinary research team. Key Competencies Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to translate research questions into implementable technical solutions. Scientific rigor and attention to detail in experimental design and validation. Proficiency in algorithm development, data analysis, and technical writing. Project planning and execution skills, including the ability to manage multiple technical tasks in parallel. Initiative, ownership, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with clinicians, engineers, students, and external collaborators. Mentoring and supervisory ability for junior team members and students. Major Challenges Integrating multiple research components, including hardware, data acquisition, signal processing, and user-facing outputs, into a coherent and robust imaging prototype. Achieving demanding technical targets in high-frequency ultrasound, such as high frame rates, high resolution, sufficient SNR, and reliable functional imaging performance. Balancing scientific nov…
