Assistant Professor Of Practice/ Lecturer In Design

The Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (HASS) cluster at the Singapore University of Technology and Design(SUTD) invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Practice in Design or Lecturer in Design. We are seeking an accomplished design researcher or design practitioner with an interest in driving pedagogical innovation at the interface of design thinking, technology, human-centred design, and artificial intelligence. The successful candidate should be able to help students use AI critically and creatively throughout the design process, while maintaining a strong grounding in human needs, material practice, prototyping, and real-world implementation. The candidate should have: Significant professional experience in design practice Evidence of success in the realization of design (products, services, systems, etc.) including experience with design manufacturing and links with industry An informed understanding of the opportunities, limitations, and responsible use of AI in design practice Evidence of excellence in teaching, mentoring, or facilitating studio-based and project-based learning Experience or capability for programme management and leadership is also a plus The successful candidate would play a critical role in new undergraduate and postgraduate offerings at SUTD that are central to SUTD's Design·AI vision, including: At the under graduate level, developing and running Studio courses within the Design and Artificial Intelligence (DAI) programme At the post graduate level, developing and running Design and Studio courses within the M.Eng. Innovation by Design programme and the MTD (Human-Centred Design) programme Guiding the introduction of Design·AI activities and pedagogy throughout the HASS and DAI curriculum Preferably able to integrate AI-enabled design methods, tools, and critical perspectives into studio teaching and project-based learning, and guide students in using AI to support problem framing, research, ideation, prototyping, testing, and implementation, while ensuring appropriate human judgement and oversight Application Details Candidates should submit the following materials: A cover letter A curriculum vitae A statement of teaching experience A statement of design research or design practice A portfolio documenting design practice Sample syllabi or proposals for two courses you may wish to offer Names, affiliations, and email addresses of three referees.
