Role: The Senior R&D Mechanical Engineer is expected to work independently with minimal supervision while taking a leading role in mechanical design and product development activities. This role requires strong technical expertise, sound engineering judgment, and the ability to mentor junior engineers while managing complex product development and sustaining engineering activities. The incumbent is responsible for delivering high-quality mechanical solutions that meet product performance, cost, manufacturability, and reliability requirements, while contributing to continuous improvement and innovation initiatives. Responsibilities: Lead the conceptualization, design, development, and implementation of mechanical systems and assemblies in accordance with ASMPT Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) processes. Take ownership of assigned projects from concept through product release, ensuring project milestones, quality targets, and business objectives are achieved. Identify, review, and clarify product requirements with Product Managers and other stakeholders at the initiation of development projects. Conduct and lead design reviews to ensure engineering solutions meet functionality, manufacturability, cost, robustness, and quality requirements. Participate in prototype assembly, first article builds, module testing, system integration, and product qualification activities. Support sustaining engineering activities for released products, including Engineering Change Requests (ECRs), Design-to-Cost (DTC) initiatives, product optimization, and lifecycle support. Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Project Management, NPI, Production, Quality, Sourcing, Marketing, Sales, Service, and Operations, to ensure successful product delivery. Effectively manage multiple priorities and proactively drive the timely completion of project deliverables. Ensure complete and accurate engineering documentation in accordance with ASMPT development and PLM requirements. Mentor and guide junior engineers, promoting engineering best practices, quality awareness, and professional development within the team. Drive continuous improvement initiatives by proposing innovative ideas, technologies, tools, and processes that enhance product performance and team productivity. Support innovation and intellectual property activities, including invention disclosures and patent submissions. Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, standards, company policies, and professional engineering practices. Requirements: Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related discipline. Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in machine design, automation equipment, or related engineering fields. Knowledge of the SMT and PCBA industries and associated manufacturing processes is preferred. Strong knowledge of machine design principles, mechanical systems, and automation equipment. Proficiency in 3D CAD software, preferably Siemens NX or SolidWorks. Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems, preferably Teamcenter. Good understanding of ISO 8015 GPS standards, GD&T principles, tolerancing practices, and engineering documentation standards. Knowledge of simulation and analysis tools such as ANSYS is an advantage. Strong problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills. Experience in project management, planning, and coordination of product development activities. Proven ability to mentor junior engineers and collaborate effectively within cross-functional and global teams. Demonstrated strategic thinking with a strong focus on quality, innovation, and continuous improvement. Keen interest in emerging technologies and industry trends related to mechanical engineering and advanced automation solutions. Strong cultural awareness and the ability to work effectively in a global environment.
