Technology Consultant, Tech Advisory & Risk

We are partnered with a specialised technology governance and advisory organisation to search for an adaptable, technically grounded professional to join their Technology Risk and Investigation team. This group operates as an internal technical engine, evaluating advanced technologies, investigating system failures, and translating complex risks into strategic advisory insights. This is a unique, tech-adjacent role designed for an engineer or builder who wants to pivot their career. If you have a solid engineering foundation but want to move away from daily production coding to focus on high-impact technical investigations, bleeding-edge research, and advisory work, this position is a great fit. Key Responsibilities Proactively research and evaluate the risk, vulnerability, and security implications of bleeding-edge technologies, including artificial intelligence, quantum computing risks to encryption, and specialized connected hardware. Lead deep-dive investigations into complex technical incidents, security gaps, and system compromises. Analyze digital forensic findings and review system architectures to pinpoint root causes, vulnerabilities, and potential operational gaps. Design and build agile prototypes, custom scripts, or small proofs of concept to simulate technical vulnerabilities, test evaluation methods, and demonstrate risks in a controlled environment. Distill highly complex technical concepts, system failures, and architectural risks into clear, practical guidelines, executive explainers, and advisory materials for non-technical stakeholders, management, and partners. Collaborate with external research groups, academic labs, and technology partners to stay ahead of global technology trends and industry standards. Required Qualifications & Experience Educational Foundation: Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related STEM discipline. Experience: At least 5 years of experience spanning software engineering, product development, data analytics, or cybersecurity. The Right Career Pivot: Hands-on experience building or analyzing systems end-to-end, with a strong desire to move into a technical advisory, research, or investigative track. Mindset & Background: Prior experience in startups, where you had to adapt rapidly, learn new technologies overnight, and wear multiple hats, is highly valued. Alternatively, a background in technical consulting or IT project delivery where you transitioned from hands-on engineering execution to technical advisory and stakeholder management. Deep Analytical Skill: A natural tendency to dig past surface-level explanations to understand the internal mechanics and logic of a system failure. Communication: Exceptional ability to articulate complex technical ideas, logic, and code outcomes clearly to non-technical business and corporate stakeholders. Technical Tools: Comfortable utilizing modern development tools, scripts, or AI-assisted coding to build quick proofs of concept independently.
