About this role

Key Accountabilities This role will be a critical member of our new economics and strategy function. The economist will work with the Chief Economist to enhance our modelling and forecasting process for Asia’s economies, as well as its equity, fixed income, and foreign exchange markets. The economist will produce frequent analysis and thought leadership on regional and global macro themes. The successful candidate will support the Chief Economist by producing frequent econometric, written and graphical analysis of global and regional economic data and market developments for our portfolio managers, clients, and business managers. Conduct thorough research on economic issues and market trends. Interpret and forecast market trends and economic patterns. Collect and process economic and market data. Develop econometric models to forecast key economic and market variables. Prepare and present reports that effectively communicate economic findings to non-economist audiences. Share insights on the impact of economic factors on the organization’s objectives. Monitor and interpret changes in government policies and market trends. Collaborate with other senior-level executives on interdisciplinary teams. Qualifications and Experience A strong degree in Economics/Finance with coursework in econometrics. Post-graduate degrees are preferred. Demonstrated strong quantitative skills with a focus on econometrics and experience with a leading statistics package such as EViews or, preferably, Python. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint. At least 3-5 years of experience working in an economics role in a financial institution, government agency, or multi-lateral covering Asia’s economies. Fluency in spoken and particularly written English. Strong critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving abilities. Demonstrated ability to distil complex economic data into presentations/reports for technical and non-technical audiences. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
