ABOUT LUMILENS At Lumilens we are building the critical photonics infrastructure that powers tomorrow’s AI supercomputing. From chip-to-chip optical interconnects to scalable photonic engines, Lumilens is unlocking a new era of computing faster, cooler, and massively more efficient. We’re a well-funded startup backed by Mayfield and led by veterans who’ve built and scaled some of the most transformative technologies in the industry. This isn’t incremental innovation, it’s a ground-floor opportunity to rethink the optical layer from the silicon up. You’ll work alongside a team of world-class engineers solving some of the hardest challenges in optics, systems, and scale. Every line of code, every design decision, every breakthrough you help deliver will shape the infrastructure of tomorrow. If you're looking for mission, momentum, and the chance to make an outsized impact jump on the rocket ship. We’re just getting started. Role Overview Senior hands-on engineer who leads device and PICcharacterization and test execution at the bench, builds and scales lab andmeasurement infrastructure, and sets test methodology while mentoringengineers. Roles & Responsibilities Define and own the characterization strategy for devices and PICs (EO, OE, OO) at chip and wafer level. Architect and lead high-speed measurements (bandwidth, BER, eye diagrams, etc.). Establish and drive best practices for test automation frameworks and measurement routines using LabVIEW and/or Python. Lead wafer probing, optical alignment, and test setup bring-up. Drive root-cause analysis and resolution of complex test and measurement issues. Analyze data and provide actionable feedback to design and process teams to influence next-generation designs. Own die sorting and yield improvement initiatives. Lead the transition from R&D to production test flows. Mentor and provide technical direction to junior test engineers across the team. Collaborate cross-functionally with design, process, and product teams to define test requirements and roadmaps. Requirements Education Bachelor’s degree or higher in EE, Physics, or related field. Experience Typically 8+ years of relevant experience Technical Skills Deep, hands-on expertise in photonics device testing and optical lab work. Expertise with high-speed measurement equipment (VNA, oscilloscope, BERT). Strong understanding of optical communication systems. Programming & Tools Advanced proficiency in LabVIEW (preferred) and/or Python, including architecting test automation frameworks. Proficiency with instrument control (VISA/SCPI). Practical Skills Extensive experience with optical alignment, fiber handling, and wafer probing. Ability to design, build, and scale lab test infrastructure. Soft Skills Detail-oriented, hands-on leader able to mentor others and drive execution in a fast-paced environment.
