About this role

The Social Service Assistant supports the provision of quality residential care for children and youths at Ahuva Good Shepherd. The incumbent works closely with the Residential Manager, Social Workers, and other care staff to provide a safe, nurturing, trauma-informed, and child-centered environment where residents can experience stability, develop life skills, build positive relationships, and achieve their developmental potential. The Social Service Assistant plays a key role in supporting residents' daily living needs, emotional well-being, behavioural development, and participation in educational, recreational, and therapeutic activities. Through consistent care, supervision, and positive role modelling, the incumbent helps create a structured, homely therapeutic community that promotes healing, resilience, and personal growth. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Resident Care and Supervision 1. Provide care, supervision, guidance, and emotional support to residents in accordance with their individual needs and care plans. 2. Ensure residents adhere to daily routines, including meals, personal hygiene, school attendance, homework, household chores, appointments, and programme participation. 3. Foster positive relationships with residents and serve as a consistent role model in demonstrating appropriate behaviours, values, and life skills. 4. Encourage and support residents in developing independence, self-confidence, social skills, and personal responsibility. 2. Therapeutic and Trauma-Informed Care 1. Contribute to a safe, caring, and therapeutic living environment that promotes residents' emotional well-being and recovery from adverse experiences. 2. Apply trauma-informed, strengths-based, and child-centered approaches when interacting with residents. 3. Support residents in managing emotions, resolving conflicts appropriately, and developing healthy coping strategies. 4. Observe residents' behaviours, emotional state, and developmental progress, and communicate significant observations to supervisors and social work staff. 3. Residential Operations 1. Support the day-to-day operations and housekeeping of the residential home, ensuring a safe, clean, and conducive living environment. 2. Assist in organising and facilitating recreational, educational, developmental, and life-skills activities for residents. 3. Accompany residents to appointments, school-related activities, medical visits, and community outings as required. 4. Documentation and Communication 1. Complete daily logs, shift reports, incident reports, and other documentation accurately and promptly. 2. Participate actively in shift handovers and team meetings to ensure continuity of care and effective communication among staff. 3. Maintain confidentiality and safeguard residents' personal information in accordance with organisational policies. 5. Safety and Crisis Management 1. Ensure the safety and well-being of residents at all times. 2. Respond appropriately to incidents, behavioural challenges, crises, or emergencies, and escalate concerns to the Residential Manager or designated supervisor when necessary. 3. Adhere to child safeguarding requirements, residential care standards, and organisational policies and procedures. Requirements · Candidate should have at least a diploma with at least 1 year of relevant working experience. · Willing to perform rotating shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays where required. · Required to work one weekend per week.
