About this role

The Legal Services Division (LSD) administers justice through fair prosecution and adjudication, and provides effective legal advice and solutions to advance MOM’s mission. We invite qualified candidates to apply for the following position: Prosecuting Officer (Prosecution and Regulatory Enforcement Department) You will join a dynamic team, whose role is to assess cases of civil infringements, civil contraventions and enforce the penal provisions found in the various Acts administered by MOM, including the Employment Act, the Employment of Foreign Manpower Act, the Workplace Safety and Health Act etc. Your duties include the following: • Assessing case files to determine the appropriate enforcement actions under the civil infringement and civil contravention regimes • Assessing investigation Papers to make charging decisions (including administer warnings or offer composition). • Conducting mentions, pre-trial conferences and trials in the State Courts. • Assisting in the preparation for High Court proceedings, including High Court Criminal Appeals. • Preparing notes of evidence and detailed Grounds of Decisions for appeals to the Appeal Board or High Court; • Appearing on behalf of the Commissioner for Foreign Manpower before the Appeal Board • Providing legal advice to enforcement divisions in relation to investigations and enforcement matters. • Conducting training on various legal topics. • Reviewing and crafting enforcement policies pertaining to MOM issues. • Individuals holding LLB degrees awarded by universities recognised under the Legal Profession Act (Chapter 161, Section 2(2)), Legal Profession (Qualified Persons) Rules (“the Rules”) may wish to note that any period of employment as a Prosecuting Officer may be counted towards the practice training period for the purposes of section 13 of the LPA. Candidates should possess: • Be a Qualified Person under the Legal Profession Act and/or called to the Singapore Bar • The ability to advocate and think on one’s feet. • The ability to write clearly and reason compellingly. • Strong interest in court-work We regret that only short-listed candidates will be notified.
