The College of Computing and Data Science is seeking to hire a research fellow to support ongoing research projects in diffusion generative models and Monte Carlo stochastic simulation methods. This position holder will apply these techniques and other advanced AI methods in meteorology (atmospheric data assimilation). This contributes to the cutting-edge research expertise of the College and the University in the strategic areas of Machine Learning, Statistical Data Science, and Artificial Intelligence. Job Responsibilities: Read, understand, and summarize the latest literature on the use of generative modelling techniques (such as diffusion models and flows) in data assimilation, both in the context of meterology and elsewhere Read, understand, and summarize the latest literature on inference in state-space models with particle filters Devise, implement, and inspect theoretical properties of new methods for meteorological inference with generative modelling Publish results in reputable international journals and conferences Present results and establish new research networks at reputable international conferences Mentor graduate students and report to PI as required Organize internal events (reading groups, seminars, etc.) as required Perform teaching and invigilation duties as per the need of the College and in adequation with research objectives Job Requirements: PhD degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Meterology, Atmospheric Sciences, or equivalent In-depth knowledge in data assimilation and Kalman filters Working experience with atmospheric or climate data Independent, highly analytical, proactive and a team player Excellent teamwork and verbal, written communication skills Demonstrated capability to conduct innovative research. The ability and willingness to adapt and incorporate novel ideas and approaches in scientific industry. Demonstrated ability to formulate hypothesis and design effective experimental plans. Ability to design and implement new experimental methods. High-level expertise in the required experiment or modelling methods. Ability to initiate collaboration research in multidisciplinary team. Oversee and report project progress. Ability and willingness to work some flexible hours. We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
