Job Description The National University of Singapore invites applications for the position of Research Fellow in the Smart Systems Institute. The Research Fellow will contribute to the design, development and evaluation of human-centered artifacts. This would include working on research projects involving assistive technologies for people with visual impairments, personalized learning platforms, and Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), with emphasis on user experience design, prototyping, accessibility, and usability evaluation. The Research Fellow will investigate how interactive technologies can be designed to respond to the diverse abilities, needs, preferences, and contexts of users. This will include developing accessible solutions that support people with visual impairment, as well as adaptive learning platforms that personalize delivery of learning content, feedback and learning pathways. A central focus of the role will be the application of human-centered and participatory design approaches. The candidate will work closely with end users, educators, researchers, developers, and community partners to understand user needs, translate research insights into prototypes, and evaluate the usability, accessibility, and overall user experience of proposed solutions. Major responsibilities include: 1. Leading the project and conducting research into the needs, experiences, and challenges of people with visual impairment. 2. Contributing to the design and evaluation of learning platforms that provide personalized and adaptive learning experiences. 3. Working closely with Assoc. Prof. Suranga Nanayakkara, collaborating with the Senior Research Fellow, and providing guidance to the Research Assistants/Engineers in the group. 3. Dissemination of research outcomes through presentations, demonstrations and journal/conference publications. 4. Participating in project meetings and relevant industrial/academic events. Experience and skills preferred · A PhD in Human-Computer Interaction, User Experience Design or related fields. · Experience in Usability testing, heuristic evaluation, and UX evaluation tools. · Experience in UX and UI Design Tools (Figma, Adobe Illustrator, Fusion 360, Miro). · Experience in UX/UI design for Assistive Tech and Edutech projects. · A strong track record, supported by publications in reputable HCI conferences and journals. · Excellent written, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills. · Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
