Job Description Postdoc/Research Fellow Position in Next-Generation Urban Weather Modeling at NUS/CCRS (Singapore) The National University of Singapore (NUS), as part of the Climate and Weather Research Alliance Singapore (CAWRAS), invites applications for a two-year Postdoctoral Research Fellow. This position is part of the Weather Science Research Programme (WSRP), a national initiative to advance tropical urban weather and climate science. The successful candidate will contribute to a project focused on representing Singapore's urban complexity and its impact on local weather, developing its next-generation modelling system using LFRic atmospheric model and the JULES urban canopy model on national supercomputing resources through close collaborations with Momentum Partners and international collaborators. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of next-generation high-resolution urban climate modelling within a nationally coordinated research program involving NEA, A*STAR, NTU and NUS and international collaborators. Qualifications Applicants must have a PhD, ideally obtained within the last six years, in atmospheric science, meteorology, physics, or a related discipline with a demonstrated focus on model analysis and evaluation. Required experience includes working with numerical weather prediction (NWP) or Earth system models such as WRF or the Unified Model. Strong preference will be given to candidates with experience in next-generation frameworks like LFRic, land surface models like JULES, and urban canopy models. Advanced proficiency in scientific programming within high performance computing environments is also highly desirable, as is experience with AI, advanced data analytics, and the management of large geophysical datasets to support model analysis and evaluation. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, evidenced by publications in peer-reviewed journals, and a desire to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary, international team. The position will be based in the Urban Climate Lab (http://www.nusurbanclimate.com/) within the Department of Geography at the National University of Singapore (http://www.fas.nus.edu.sg/geog/), which consistently ranks among the top geography departments globally. This is a highly collaborative project with CCRS (https://ccrs.weather.gov.sg/index/) and local research institutes and involves close interaction with scientists from the UK Met Office and other international partners. More information The position is available from Summer 2026 and will remain open until filled, though applications submitted before 31 March 2026 will receive primary consideration. To apply, please email a one-page cover letter, a full CV, and the names and contact information of three references (including your PhD supervisor) to the NUS Career Portal. For further information contact: Matthias Roth, Professor of Urban Climatology, Department of Geography, National University of Singapore (https://discovery.nus.edu.sg/711-matthias-roth).
