Job Description The Civic Tech Lab at the Department of Communications and New Media, National University of Singapore, seeks a highly organized and motivated Full-time Research Assistant/Associate and Grant Manager specializing in online harmful content. The successful candidate will manage research projects funded by grants, oversee budgetary and administrative processes, and assist in analyzing harmful online content through computational social science methods. The role requires strong analytical and managerial skills, computational proficiency, and a keen awareness of local Singaporean socio-cultural contexts. Key Responsibilities: Manage grant-related activities including budgeting, reporting, compliance monitoring, and liaising with funding agencies. Coordinate administrative aspects of research projects, ensuring timely achievement of project milestones and deliverables. Conduct research on online harmful content such as misinformation, hate speech, and cyberbullying, particularly relevant to Singapore. Utilize both traditional and computational social science techniques including surveys, focus groups, experiments, content analysis, and social media analytics. Oversee data collection, management, and analysis from various online platforms. Assist in writing reports, academic papers, and policy briefs. Organize and coordinate project-related events, workshops, and meetings. Skills: Prior experience in managing grants or research projects. Familiarity with advanced computational methods, data visualization, and big data analysis. Proactive attitude towards learning new methodologies and technologies relevant to computational social sciences and grant administration. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or higher in Social Sciences (e.g., Communication, Sociology, Political Science) or related fields. Extensive experience or coursework in traditional social science methods and data analysis (e.g., surveys, focus groups, experiments, content analysis) Experience or coursework in computational methods and data analysis (e.g., Python, R, NLP techniques). Familiarity with grant management processes, budgeting, and reporting. Understanding of issues related to online harmful content and digital governance. Knowledge and keen sensitivity to Singapore's socio-political and cultural landscape. Excellent organizational, communication, and project management skills. Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively.
