AI Engineer

Norges Bank Investment Management is seeking an outstanding individual to join our team as a Senior Artificial Intelligence Engineer. The role comprises the design, build, and deployment of AI systems that support the fund's mission, with the opportunity to shape how we apply artificial intelligence across investment, operations, and decision-making. Our engineers work with a large degree of autonomy, building robust, production-grade solutions in an operationally critical environment. You will help scale our capacity through AI while keeping human judgement firmly in the loop, capitalising on our unique characteristics — world-class data, a long-term horizon, and a culture of continuous learning. What you will do Design, build, and deploy AI systems and agent-based architectures into production, with appropriate evaluation, guardrails, and human-in-the-loop controls Partner with investment and operational teams to translate real business problems into reliable AI solutions Ensure the robustness, scalability, and maintainability of the systems you build in a mission-critical setting Stay at the forefront of AI research and tooling, and bring practical, well-judged innovation into the organisation Act as a strong ambassador for responsible and effective use of AI across the fund Contribute actively to team tasks and technical discussions internally What you need Deep, hands-on experience building and deploying AI/ML systems, ideally including LLM- and agent-based architectures A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related field is preferred, though not a strict requirement Strong software engineering fundamentals and experience taking systems from prototype to production Demonstrated understanding of evaluation, guardrails, and human-in-the-loop design Commitment to continuous learning and staying current with a fast-moving field Excellent communication skills, enabling high-quality collaboration with both technical and non-technical stakeholders Ability to work independently with a high degree of autonomy and decision-making capacity Who you are You are an ambitious individual with a critical and curious mindset who enjoys taking on responsibility and solving challenges without a set recipe or detailed guidance.
