The HPC Engineer will be responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and operation of HPC Clusters, High Performance Parallel Filesystems and its associated systems. This is a “hands-on” role requiring solid technical skills, as well as communication skills and good team-building attributes. General Responsibilities Include: · Operated and maintained high performance computing (HPC) clusters under defined service level agreements to ensure system reliability and availability. · Design, develops, recommends and implements new or revised system software, utilities and automated processes. · Performed system analysis, configuration management, and performance tuning for largescale Linux based compute environments. · Be able to work independently and support multiple projects with minimal supervision. · Monitored and tuned HPC systems for optimal performance across standalone and multi-tier environments. · Diagnosed complex hardware and operating system failures and developed long-term, remediation solutions. · Maintained data integrity by implementing and managing robust storage, backup, and disaster recovery procedures. · Applied and enforced strong security controls and industry-standard best practices across HPC infrastructure. · Ability to run User Training sessions, end user and researcher workshops, project onboarding and review workshops, and workshops related to use of cloud resources for Research HPC · Developed and maintained Bash scripts and automation tools to streamline cluster operations · Performed OS patching, kernel tuning, and lifecycle maintenance for RHEL-based Linux systems · Maintained up to date technical documentation, SOPs, and operational runbooks · Collaborated with cross-functional teams, leadership, and customers to resolve escalations and ensure timely delivery of services. · Proposed and contributed to process improvements, system enhancements, and technology modernization initiatives. · Evaluated emerging HPC, cloud, and automation technologies to align with organizational strategy and performance goals. Required Skills: · Experience in operating a HPC Cluster with Job Scheduler, Cluster Management, Parallel Programming Libraries and Parallel File Systems · 5+ years of Linux/UNIX System Administration and Operating Systems. (Prefer RHEL-based systems) · Demonstrated experience in configuring, supporting and handling Systems Hardware · Demonstrated experience in configuring, supporting and using Hypervisors and VMs on AWS, Azure, VMware, OpenStack, OpenShift and other Cloud technologies · Demonstrated experience in configuring, supporting and using Job schedulers (e.g. PBS, PBS-Pro, Slurm) · Demonstrated experience in configuring, supporting and using Nagios, Grafana, Prometheus, Ganglia · Demonstrated experience in configuring, supporting and using Filesystems: NFSv4, GPFS/BeeGFS/Lustre · Demonstrated experience in configuring, supporting and using high-speed low latency networking interconnects (e.g. Infiniband) · Demonstrated experience in configuring, supporting and using Identity Management: AD, ldap, CentraDB · Demonstrated experience in configuring, supporting and using Parallel Programming Libraries (e.g. MPI, MPICH, OpenMPI, Intel-MPI, OpenMP) · Demonstrated experience in configuring, supporting and using Programming language and library: gcc, icc, python,R · Demonstrated experience in configuring, supporting and using Scripting: Bash scripts, Python scripts · Demonstrated experience in configuring, supporting and using container technologies (e.g. SingularityApptainer, Podman, Docker) · Demonstrated experience in configuring, supporting and using Profiling and Debugging tools like VTune, Valgrind and gprof · Demonstrated experience in configuring, supporting and using AI/GPU/FPGA libraries and tools (e.g. CUDA, OpenCL, pytorch) · Demonstrated experience in configuring, supporting and using kickstart, xCAT, Ansible, BCM, or Puppet for automated Linux provisioning and configuration · Demonstrated good written and oral communication skills.
