About this role

An Embryologist plays a critical role in the success of an IVF centre, responsible for the handling, assessment and manipulation of gametes and embryos in the laboratory. He/she ensures that laboratory protocols and techniques are rigorously followed to maximise success rates of fertility treatments. The embryologist will be working closely with IVF clinicians, nurses and other clinical staff to facilitate patient-centered reproductive care. Job Responsibilities 1. Embryology Procedures: · Perform gamete (egg and sperm) collection, assessment, preparation and culture. · Carry out in-vitro fertilisation procedures including conventional IVF and Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI). · Monitor embryo development from fertilisation through to blastocyst stage. · Conduct embryo transfers and cryopreservation of embryos, eggs and sperm. · Perform embryo thawing and preparation for Frozen embryo transfer. · Perform egg thawing for Egg Freezing program. 2. Laboratory Management: · Ensure all laboratory equipment is properly maintained, calibrated and in working order. · Maintain accurate records of all laboratory procedures, specimen handling and patient data. · Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation bodies such as Ministry of Health (MOH) and Reproductive Technology Accreditation Committee (RTAC). · Perform quality control and assurance procedures to maintain the highest standards in laboratory processes. · Exercise economy and care in the use of Lab equipment and supplies; including performing regular stock-take exercise. · Maintain a safe and clean environment in the laboratory. 3. Patient-centered Care: · Communicate with IVF Clinicians and clinical staff regarding the progress and status of each case. · Provide patient updates, offering explanations of embryo quality and developmental stages. · Ensure the confidentiality and sensitivity of patient information. 4. Research and Innovation: · Stay updated on the latest advancements in the reproductive biology and embryology techniques. · Assist in service improvement initiatives or projects aimed at improving success rates or introducing new services and techniques. · Participate in training sessions, webinars and conferences to enhance skills and knowledge base. Specifics 1. Exercise keen attention to details, high precision in handling gametes and embryos. 2. Work independently with integrity and responsibly while showing concern for others. 3. Work cohesively with clinical teams and other embryologists. 4. Able to explain complex concepts in a patient-friendly manner. 5. Demonstrate quick-thinking and strong analytical skills for troubleshooting issues that may arise during embryology procedures. 6. Exercise a calm and compassionate demeanor when dealing with sensitive outcomes for patients. 7. Participate in activities organized by the department and hospital. 8. Participate in projects and perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisors. 9. Perform other duties and projects as assigned by managers or supervisors Job requirements · Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences, Medical technology, Biotechnology or any other related fields. · Ability to work weekends and public holidays on a rotation basis to accommodate the IVF treatment cycles. · Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to the ethical standards of the IVF field. · Desire to continue education through on-going training, workshops and certification programs. · Willingness to participate in continuous quality improvement processes in line with industry standards and advancements in technology.
