Project Engineer

Job Description – Project Engineer (Rail Engineering) Position Title Project Engineer (Rail Engineering) Reporting To Project Manager / Senior Project Manager Position Overview The Project Engineer is responsible for the planning, coordination, supervision, execution, monitoring, and successful delivery of railway installation, renewal, upgrading, maintenance, testing support, and commissioning projects across operational railway environments. The Project Engineer shall manage day-to-day project activities involving Station Equipment Rooms (SER), Equipment Rooms (ER), Depot Equipment Rooms, Trackside Systems, Tunnels, Viaducts, Stations, Workshops, Stabling Areas, and Mainline Railway Infrastructure. The role requires close coordination with clients, railway operators, subcontractors, suppliers, supervisors, safety personnel, and testing & commissioning teams to ensure project milestones, quality standards, safety requirements, and contractual obligations are achieved. The incumbent shall possess strong technical knowledge in railway signalling systems, electrical systems, communications systems, cable infrastructure, point machine systems, depot systems, and trackside installations, while ensuring works are executed safely within Engineering Hours (EH), possessions, and operational railway constraints. Key Responsibilities Project Planning & Management Manage assigned railway projects from initiation to completion. Review contract specifications, technical documents, drawings, work packages, and project requirements. Develop project execution plans, manpower deployment schedules, construction programmes, and resource plans. Monitor project progress, productivity, milestones, and deliverables. Coordinate project activities with clients, consultants, railway operators, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders. Identify project risks and implement mitigation measures. Prepare and submit project reports, progress updates, and technical documentation. Monitor project budgets, variation works, material consumption, and cost performance. Assist in tender preparation, technical proposals, and project planning activities when required. Ensure project delivery within approved timelines, budget, safety, and quality requirements. Station Equipment Room (SER) & Equipment Room Works Manage and supervise installation, modification, renewal, migration, and maintenance activities within: Station Equipment Rooms (SER) Equipment Rooms (ER) Signalling Equipment Rooms Relay Rooms Communications Rooms UPS Rooms Power Supply Rooms Depot Equipment Rooms Technical Rooms Equipment Buildings Responsibilities include: Installation and replacement of signalling racks, cabinets, cubicles, and equipment. Equipment migration and renewal works. Cable routing, dressing, segregation, and containment works. Installation of power supply systems and communication equipment. Equipment relocation and decommissioning activities. Earthing and bonding installations. Verification of installation compliance with railway standards and project specifications. Coordination of testing readiness and handover activities. Trackside Works Plan, coordinate, and supervise trackside installation and maintenance activities involving: Signalling Systems Mainline signalling equipment. Signals and signal structures. Point machine systems. Axle counters. Track circuits. Balises. Wayside interface equipment. Junction boxes. Location cases. Signalling control cabinets. Trackside monitoring systems. Cable Infrastructure Cable route surveys. Cable laying and replacement works. Installation of cable support systems. Installation of cable hooks, brackets, and cable containment systems. Track crossing cable installations. Cable identification and tagging. Cable route maintenance and inspections. Infrastructure Support Works Equipment mounting structures. Foundation verification. Equipment support installations. Interface coordination with civil and system contractors. Depot Works Manage installation, maintenance, upgrading, and renewal activities within railway depots including: Depot signalling systems. Depot interlocking systems. Workshop signalling systems. Stabling area systems. Maintenance track systems. Depot communication systems. Depot power supply systems. Depot equipment rooms. Maintenance facilities. Operations Control Rooms.
