Senior Backend Software Engineer

Job Summary You will design and develop scalable backend services and cloud-native solutions using Java Spring Boot and AWS. Lead API and database architecture, mentor developers, and optimize system performance for impactful government digital services. Responsibilities Design and develop robust, scalable backend services using Java Spring Boot to meet business needs Architect and implement RESTful APIs and microservices following industry best practices for maintainability and performance Design and deploy cloud-native solutions leveraging AWS services including Lambda, ECS/EKS, RDS, EC2, and S3 to ensure scalability and reliability Lead the design and implementation of database schemas and data models for both relational and NoSQL databases to support application requirements Ensure backend systems achieve high performance, reliability, and security standards through continuous monitoring and optimization Collaborate with frontend developers and stakeholders to define and implement clear API contracts that facilitate seamless integration Mentor junior developers by providing guidance and conducting thorough code reviews to maintain code quality Participate actively in system design discussions and technical planning to align solutions with business goals Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins or GitLab CI to automate deployment and testing processes Troubleshoot production issues promptly and optimize system performance to minimize downtime and improve user experience Required competencies and certifications 8+ years of professional software development experience Strong expertise in Java Spring Boot framework for backend development Extensive experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs and microservices architectures Proven experience with AWS services including AWS Lambda, serverless architecture, Amazon ECS/EKS, RDS, EC2, and S3 for cloud-native application development Proficient in SQL and experienced with both relational (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB, DynamoDB) databases Strong understanding of software design patterns and principles such as SOLID and DRY to produce maintainable code Experience using version control systems (Git) and implementing CI/CD practices for continuous integration and delivery Knowledge of testing methodologies and frameworks including JUnit, Mockito, and TestContainers to ensure code quality Experience working in agile development environments to deliver iterative improvements Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve complex technical challenges Preferred competencies and qualifications AWS certifications such as Solutions Architect or Developer to validate cloud expertise Experience with container orchestration technologies like Kubernetes and Docker for scalable deployments Familiarity with message queuing systems such as Kafka or RabbitMQ to support event-driven architectures Knowledge of reactive programming paradigms to build responsive applications Experience working on Singapore Government IT projects and familiarity with the Singapore Government Technology Stack (SGTS) Experience integrating authentication systems like SingPass and CorpPass for secure access Understanding of government security policies and compliance requirements to ensure regulatory adherence Experience with performance monitoring tools and Application Performance Management (APM) solutions such as CloudWatch, ELK Stack, Prometheus, and Grafana Experience designing and implementing event-driven architectures to enhance system responsiveness Other Information What We Offer: Opportunity to work on impactful government digital services Technical leadership opportunities to grow your career Professional development and AWS certification support Competitive compensation package Flexible working arrangements for work-life balance Regular knowledge sharing sessions to foster continuous learning Collaborative team environment encouraging innovation and teamwork
