Analysis conducted in this role will identify trading opportunities in the VLSFO, HSFO, LSFO and residual feedstock markets and support trading decisions and commercial performance of the Eastern and wider Global Fuel Oil trading bench. Adept at developing partnerships across trading and analytics, the market strategist develops networks that stretch cross-geography and cross-commodity. They leverage the full suite of skills and capabilities that reside within our strong multidisciplinary analytics team, connecting data, analysis and insight. A successful candidate is able to challenge and influence risk deployment across the Eastern Fuel Oil markets. Building strong trust and partnership with traders by delivering innovative and accurate fundamental insights. Complex insights and market observations are able to be communicated with speed, impact and due regard to the inherent risks and uncertainties. The role will include construction of various economic models to evaluate key factors that impact the Eastern Fuel Oil markets. This includes maintaining supply/demand models and analyzing/forecasting various aspects of the market e.g. production, blending, yields, trade flows (i.e., imports and exports), demand, impact of geopolitical events, regulatory changes, new technologies, storage, etc. Monitor & quantify market fundamentals and their relationship to price Work with Lead Market Strategists and Trade Strategists to form market/trade views and influence commercial delivery Maximise the impact of information we gather from participation in physical and derivative markets Active collaboration, sharing knowledge, data, ideas and insights Grow and embed technical and subject matter expertise across the business and continually develop the analytics infrastructure. Mentorship of graduates in the distillate strategist team Professional and/or academic analytical background with knowledge of energy commodity markets that includes: Detailed knowledge of Eastern Fuel oil markets e.g. data sources, refineries, logistics, market trends and opportunities Detailed understanding of refining, and blending processes; Detailed understanding on Fuel oil qualities and bunker demand trends Detailed understanding of commodities price theory, including fundamental drivers of supply, demand, trade flows, prices and the mutual interaction of each. Understanding of global fuel oil markets and global related oil markets (e.g. crude, diesel) Technical – The successful candidate must have strong proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, Dataiku, Python and PowerBi Commercial acumen - Ability to review and analyze large amounts of data with a high level of attention to detail and problem-solving attitude. Adept at formulating short and midterm supply/demand forecasts and drawing relevant commercial insights for the business.
