Job Summary You will manage dental instrument sterilisation and maintenance to ensure patient safety and clinic efficiency, supporting infection control and assisting the dental team in a fast-paced clinical environment. Responsibilities Collect used dental instruments from treatment rooms promptly after each patient to maintain workflow Pre-soak, manually scrub, and operate ultrasonic cleaners to thoroughly remove blood, saliva, and debris from instruments Operate and maintain autoclaves for steam sterilisation and apply chemical sterilants for heat-sensitive instruments to ensure effective sterilisation Package instruments correctly into sterilisation pouches or cassettes with indicator strips to verify sterilisation status Lubricate and maintain dental handpieces following manufacturer protocols to ensure proper function Monitor sterilisation cycles using chemical and weekly biological indicators to confirm sterilisation effectiveness Maintain detailed sterilisation logs including cycle number, date, time, load contents, and indicator results for traceability Label sterilised pouches with sterilisation date and expiry to ensure safe usage Identify and report failed sterilisation cycles immediately, recall affected instruments, and notify clinic management to prevent patient risk Ensure compliance with local dental council and health ministry infection control regulations and guidelines Restock treatment rooms with sterile instrument kits and trays to prepare for each patient efficiently Track instrument inventory and coordinate timely replacement of worn or damaged tools to maintain clinic readiness Perform routine maintenance checks on sterilisation equipment and arrange servicing or repairs as needed to ensure operational reliability Manage consumables stock including sterilisation pouches, indicator strips, cleaning solutions, and PPE to support uninterrupted clinic operations Follow strict hand hygiene, PPE use, and biohazard handling protocols to maintain a safe clinical environment Dispose of sharps and contaminated waste safely according to clinical waste regulations to prevent contamination Disinfect work surfaces, sterilisation areas, and equipment daily to reduce cross-contamination risks Support the dental team in maintaining a clean, cross-contamination-free environment to protect patient health Assist in training new dental assistants and nurses on sterilisation and instrument handling protocols to uphold clinic standards Required competencies and certifications Certificate or Diploma in Dental Assisting, Sterile Processing, or related healthcare field Knowledge of dental instrument types and their sterilisation requirements Understanding of infection control standards relevant to dentistry Basic technical aptitude to operate and troubleshoot autoclaves and ultrasonic cleaners Physical ability to stand for long periods and handle sharp instruments safely Preferred competencies and qualifications Prior experience in a dental clinic, oral surgery centre, or Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD) environment High attention to detail and consistency in instrument processing Ability to work efficiently under time pressure between patient appointments Strong organizational and inventory management skills Reliability and accountability in documentation Effective communication skills to coordinate with dentists and dental assistants
