About this role

School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering is one of the founding Schools of the Nanyang Technological University. Built on a culture of excellence, the School is renowned for its high academic standards and research. With over 3,000 undergraduates students and 2,000 graduate students it is one of the largest EEE schools in the world and ranks 4th in the field of Electrical & Electronic Engineering in the 2025 QS World University Rankings by Subjects. Today, the School has become one of the world’s largest engineering schools that nurtures competent engineers and researchers. Each year, the School graduates over a thousand students who are ready to take on great ambitions and challenges. The position will be based at LUMINOUS! Centre of Excellence for Semiconductor Lighting and Displays, a leading research centre under EEE. LUMINOUS! focuses on semiconductor device research, fabrication, and applications in next-generation lighting, displays, and electronics. With state-of-the-art cleanroom and characterization facilities, the centre brings together interdisciplinary expertise in materials science, device engineering, and system integration to address key challenges in energy-efficient and sustainable technologies. For more details, please view: https://www.ntu.edu.sg/eee The LUMINOUS! Centre of Excellence for Semiconductor Lighting and Displays at NTU is seeking a Research Assistant (Experimental EUV Nanophotonics) to support an NRF-funded project on EUV nanophotonics and chip-scale EUV light-source technologies. The role involves supporting device fabrication, vacuum-system integration, electron-beam/cathodoluminescence experiments, EUV emission measurements, detector calibration, data analysis, and project reporting. The successful candidate will contribute to cutting-edge research in EUV nanophotonics, semiconductor light sources, multilayer optics, and next-generation nanofabricated photonic devices. This position is intended to provide strong research exposure in advanced EUV nanophotonics and serves as a potential pathway toward doctoral-level training. The selected candidate will be strongly encouraged and supported to pursue a PhD within the group, particularly in areas aligned with ongoing research in EUV light sources, nanophotonic devices, and semiconductor nanofabrication. Key Responsibilities: Assist in the fabrication and processing of EUV light-source components, including field-emission cathodes, nanostructured/multilayer anodes, and test devices. Support the integration of electron-beam sources, vacuum chambers, sample stages, detectors, feedthroughs, and optical/electrical measurement setups. Carry out thin-film deposition, lithography, etching, surface cleaning, sample mounting, device assembly, and related nanofabrication tasks under supervision. Perform electrical, optical, structural, and vacuum-based characterization, including SEM/EDS, profilometry/AFM, spectroscopy, cathodoluminescence, and EUV emission measurements. Support simulations, data analysis, experimental records, figure preparation, and technical documentation for reports, presentations, manuscripts, and project deliverables. Job Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Materials Science, Applied Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Nanotechnology, or a related field. Hands-on laboratory experience in semiconductor device fabrication, nanofabrication, thin-film deposition, lithography, etching, sample preparation, or related experimental work is preferred. Experience with vacuum systems, electron-beam equipment, SEM/EDS, spectroscopy, optical/electrical characterization, detector measurements, or cleanroom tools will be an advantage. Basic knowledge of nanophotonics, semiconductor devices, EUV light sources, cathodoluminescence, field emission, or thin-film multilayer optics, with the ability to analyse experimental data using Python, MATLAB, Origin, Excel, or similar tools. Good laboratory discipline, safety awareness, record keeping, teamwork, and communication skills. Entry-level candidates with relevant project, internship, final-year project, or laboratory experience may also be considered. We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
