About this role

Job Purpose The Dock & Painting Supervisor is responsible for overseeing docking operations, surface preparation, protective coating application, and painting activities for new-build vessels. The role ensures that all work is executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications, quality standards, environmental requirements, and construction schedules. Key Responsibilities Supervise docking, undocking, and vessel positioning activities in accordance with project plans and operational requirements. Coordinate and monitor surface preparation activities, including abrasive blasting, mechanical cleaning, surface profiling, and preparation works prior to coating application. Oversee the application of protective coating systems, including primers, epoxy coatings, antifouling coatings, topcoats, and other specified paint systems. Monitor environmental conditions such as temperature, relative humidity, dew point, and surface conditions to ensure compliance with coating application requirements. Conduct and document coating inspections, including dry film thickness (DFT) measurements, adhesion testing, visual inspections, and holiday testing where applicable. Maintain painting and coating records, inspection reports, quality documentation, and project progress updates. Coordinate painting activities for hull structures, external surfaces, decks, tanks, machinery spaces, accommodation areas, and other vessel compartments. Supervise touch-up, repair, and rectification works following fabrication, welding, installation, or inspection activities. Ensure all coating applications comply with approved specifications, quality requirements, manufacturer recommendations, and project procedures. Coordinate with production, quality assurance, engineering, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to support project execution and handover. Oversee paint storage, handling, mixing, inventory control, and disposal activities in accordance with safety and environmental requirements. Ensure compliance with workplace safety regulations, environmental requirements, quality standards, and company procedures. Requirements Education Diploma, Higher NITEC, NITEC, or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Marine Technology, Shipbuilding, Surface Coating Technology, Construction, or a related field. Experience Experience in shipbuilding, offshore, marine, heavy engineering, construction, or industrial coating environments. Experience supervising blasting, painting, coating, corrosion protection, or surface treatment activities. Experience in dry dock operations, vessel construction, vessel repair, offshore structures, or heavy fabrication projects will be an advantage. Experience with marine coating systems and coating inspection activities will be an advantage. Technical Competencies Knowledge of surface preparation methods, protective coating systems, and coating application techniques. Familiarity with coating inspection methods, testing procedures, and quality control requirements. Ability to interpret coating specifications, technical drawings, inspection procedures, and project documentation. Understanding of environmental controls related to painting and coating activities. Knowledge of material handling, storage, safety requirements, and environmental compliance practices. Proficiency in preparing inspection reports, progress reports, and quality records.
