Job Purpose The Marine Propulsion (Engine) Installation Supervisor is responsible for supervising the installation, alignment, integration, testing, and pre-commissioning of vessel propulsion systems and associated machinery. The role ensures that all works are executed in accordance with approved engineering specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, and project schedules. Key Responsibilities Supervise the installation of main propulsion systems, including main engines, reduction gearboxes, propulsion shafts, waterjets, propellers, auxiliary machinery, and associated equipment. Coordinate machinery installation activities in accordance with approved engineering drawings, installation procedures, and project specifications. Verify machinery foundation preparation, equipment positioning, and installation tolerances prior to final alignment activities. Supervise alignment of engines, gearboxes, shafting systems, and propulsion equipment using approved alignment methods and measurement techniques. Oversee installation of resilient mounts, vibration isolation systems, machinery supports, foundations, and associated mechanical structures. Coordinate with electrical, piping, outfitting, structural, and commissioning teams to support integrated installation and system readiness. Ensure proper installation of monitoring, control, alarm, and interfacing systems associated with propulsion and auxiliary machinery. Inspect machinery space arrangements to verify accessibility, maintainability, safety, and compliance with project requirements. Lead pre-commissioning activities, including lubrication oil flushing, machinery preservation removal, turning gear operation checks, safety device verification, and system readiness inspections. Support equipment vendor inspections, installation verification activities, and technical troubleshooting during construction and testing phases. Monitor installation progress and maintain inspection records, punch lists, work completion reports, and as-built documentation. Participate in harbour trials, machinery testing, commissioning activities, and sea trial preparations where required. Ensure compliance with workplace safety regulations, quality standards, environmental requirements, and company procedures. Requirements Education Diploma or Degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, Shipbuilding Engineering, or a related engineering discipline. Experience Experience in shipbuilding, marine engineering, offshore, heavy industrial, power generation, or related engineering projects. Experience supervising machinery installation, propulsion systems, equipment alignment, commissioning support, or mechanical construction activities. Experience with propulsion systems, marine engines, gearboxes, shafting systems, waterjets, propellers, or auxiliary machinery will be an advantage. Experience in vessel construction, high-speed craft, naval vessels, commercial shipbuilding, or offshore projects will be an advantage. Technical Competencies Knowledge of marine propulsion systems, mechanical installation practices, machinery alignment, and commissioning processes. Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, shaft alignment reports, machinery layouts, technical specifications, and installation procedures. Familiarity with propulsion equipment, auxiliary systems, vibration isolation arrangements, and machinery foundations. Understanding of mechanical testing, inspection, troubleshooting, and pre-commissioning activities. Knowledge of quality control processes, inspection requirements, and project documentation management.
