Job Scope Overall Responsibility Ultimate responsibility for the safety, efficiency, and operations of the ship and personnel. Act as the Company’s representative, safeguarding its interests and those of the Charterer. Hold overriding authority in decisions related to Quality, Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental protection (QHSSE). Authority & Compliance Full authority over all onboard personnel. Ensures compliance with Oil Pollution Prevention Legislations and maritime regulations. Approve operational or maintenance work affecting ship’s safety or watertight integrity with the Company's authorization. Prohibit repairs affecting watertight integrity while ship is loaded, except in emergencies. Safety & Security Duties Ensure crew training in emergency procedures and safety equipment within 24 hours of joining. Responsible for proper loading per Load Line Certificate and relevant legislation. Manage and report accidents and medical cases per Company protocols. Conduct Risk Assessments, Toolbox meetings, and adheres to Permit to Work (PTW) procedures. Oversee handling and disposal of controlled medicines. Maintain vessel stability and ensures cargo is stowed and secured per IMDG code. Personally involved in training officers and ratings per Company policies and STCW requirements. Change of Command Obtain relevant documents and information from predecessor. Conduct thorough inspection of the ship upon assuming command. Prepare and submit Assignment Report and Change of Command Report. Brief successor on ship characteristics, defects, and charter party terms. Inspections Weekly inspections with Chief Engineer and Chief Officer covering: Safety system Cleanliness and hygiene Living quarters, hospital, laundry, public spaces, galley, storerooms, refrigerators Records inspections in the Deck Logbook. Commercial Representation Protect Company’s and Charterer’s commercial interests. Prioritize Company’s interests in case of conflict. Consult the Company before sharing documents or information with third parties. Discipline & Efficiency Maintain discipline and efficiency among staff Responsible for good order and performance of officers and ratings Others Manage ship's accounts and promotes economical use of stores Custodian of: Ship's certificates Crew passports and discharge books Crew certificates Ship's articles Requirements Valid Master (Foreign Going) Certificate of Competency (CoC 1 Deck, unlimited) Minimum 12 months experience as Master
