Senior Backend Engineer (Java)

We’re seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join nationwide government agile development team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable backend services and APIs, while contributing to architectural decisions and mentoring junior developers. Working Location: Novena Job Type: Contract (Annual Renewal) Why join: Exposure to work on government projects Salary up to $11,000 + AWS / Up to 21 days AL Hybrid work setup that supports work-life balance What you'll do: Design and develop scalable backend services and RESTful microservices using Java Spring Boot Build cloud-native solutions on AWS while ensuring system performance, reliability, and security Design and maintain database schemas, data models, and API integrations with frontend systems Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines while troubleshooting and optimising production systems Participate in system design, technical planning, code reviews, and mentorship of junior developers Requirements: 8+ years’ relevant experience in Backend Development Degree/Diploma in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related Strong experience in Java, Spring Boot & Terraform Proficient in SQL and experience with both relational and NoSQL databases Strong understanding of software design patterns and principles (SOLID, DRY, etc.) Experience with RESTful APIs and microservices architecture Experience with AWS services including AWS Lambda and serverless architecture Experience in large-scale monitoring or distributed systems Familiar with Agile and CI/CD practices Basic experience with GIS development If you are passionate about backend development and cloud architecture, and want to contribute to meaningful public sector projects, submit your application now!
