Job Description & Requirements Key Responsibilities Review and analyze voyage charter parties, Contracts of Affreightment (COAs), and related shipping contracts to determine demurrage and detention entitlement. Calculate laytime, demurrage, detention, and dispatch claims accurately in accordance with charter party terms and industry practices. Prepare, submit, negotiate, and settle demurrage and detention claims with charterers, shipowners, operators, brokers, terminals, and cargo interests. Monitor vessel performance, port operations, and voyage activities to identify potential claim opportunities and risks. Gather and review supporting documentation including Statements of Facts (SOF), Notice of Readiness (NOR), time sheets, pumping logs, cargo documents, and port records. Liaise closely with Chartering, Operations, Legal, Finance, and Commercial teams to resolve disputes and optimize claim recoveries. Maintain detailed records of claim status, recoveries, outstanding receivables, and dispute resolutions. Conduct root cause analysis on delays and provide recommendations to minimize future demurrage exposure. Ensure compliance with charter party terms, company policies, and industry regulations. Generate regular reports on demurrage performance, claim recovery rates, and key operational trends for management review. Requirements Bachelor's Degree in Maritime Studies, Shipping, Logistics, Supply Chain, Business, Law, or a related discipline. Minimum 2–5 years of experience in demurrage, vessel operations, tanker operations, chartering support, claims handling, or a related shipping function. Strong understanding of laytime calculations, demurrage, detention, dispatch, and charter party clauses. Familiarity with tanker, dry bulk, or container shipping operations and commercial processes. Ability to interpret voyage charter parties, operational records, and contractual documentation accurately. Strong analytical and numerical skills with excellent attention to detail. Experience handling commercial claims and negotiating settlements is preferred. Proficient in Microsoft Excel and shipping-related systems or voyage management platforms. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple claims, and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge of industry standards such as BIMCO charter parties and shipping commercial practices would be advantageous.
