As part of the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, we oversee the solemnisation and registration of Muslim marriages in accordance with Islamic law and the Administration of Muslim Law Act. As Kadi/Deputy Registrar of the ROMM, you will be administering Muslim marriages under the provisions of the Administration of Muslim Law Act (AMLA). During your work, you will be required to: • Process applications for solemnisation and registration of Muslim marriages. • Administer statutory declaration and verification of documents relating to applications for registration and solemnisation of marriages. • Administer revocation of divorces. • Coordinate with designated agencies on referrals with regards to Muslim marriages. • Attend to public on matters relating to Muslim marriages. • Collaborates with staff, agencies, and organisations to plan and deliver marriage support programmes and initiatives • Any other duties as assigned by the Registrar. Application of Law • Understands and applies Islamic family law and relevant Singapore legislation to ROMM's work tasks. • Grasps key legal principles governing Muslim marriages, incorporates them into decision-making on matrimonial matters, and stays current on changes in both Syariah and civil law. • Ensures ROMM's operations comply with legal frameworks, maintaining the integrity of Muslim marriage registration and related services. Legislation Formulation • Demonstrates comprehensive understanding of Islamic family law, AMLA, and relevant government regulations pertaining to Muslim marriages. • Applies this knowledge effectively in ROMM's operations, ensuring compliance with both Syariah and civil law requirements in marriage registration, divorce matters, and related services. • Makes informed decisions in complex cases, balancing legal requirements with cultural sensitivities. Legislative Review • Systematically examines and reviews existing legislation related to Muslim marriages, including the Administration of Muslim Law Act. • Identifies areas for improvement or update in laws governing Islamic matrimonial matters, ensuring ROMM's practices remain current and effective in serving the Muslim community. Stakeholder Engagement • Identifies and prioritises key stakeholders relevant to Muslim marriage registration and related services. • Develops and maintains effective relationships with diverse stakeholders. • Demonstrates ability to engage stakeholders strategically, fostering collaboration and support for ROMM's objectives. Working Experiences • You must have at least 3 years of working experience in a related field of Islamic work administration, such as solemnising Muslim Marriages. Personality Traits • Demonstrates deep understanding and respect for Islamic traditions and diverse cultural practices within the Muslim community. Shows ability to conduct ceremonies with appropriate reverence and adherence to religious customs. • Able to maintain a formal yet warm demeanour appropriate for solemnisation ceremonies.
